Join up with us, we are more than just a gaelic football club. We're a family.
Young Irelands Sydney, formed in 1969, is the oldest competing Gaelic football club in the New South Wales Gaelic football competition. We are always keen for new members to carry on the long and successful tradition of promoting Irish games and culture in Sydney. Young Irelands field a mens senior Gaelic football team in the New South Wales competition.
In 2007 the club enjoyed it's most succesful year to date winning all competitions it entered in New South Wales. These were namely the annual 10-a-side and Central Coast-Gosford competitions as well as the more coveted senior league and championship double. This was our year of the three in a row in terms of championships won. We held onto the trophy after wins in 2005, 2006, and 2007. 2007's win made it 9 championship wins in ten years for the 'Mighty Green and Golds' In 2008 the club was going through a transitional year and while making the finals of a number of competitions failed to lift any silverware. This was rectified in 2009 when we lifted the championship again making us the most succesful club in Australia in the noughties.
2010 has been a mixed year for us so far, we started off by winning the Melbourne 7 a side competition. In the senior league we were narrowly beaten in the semis but as everyone knows Young Ireland really come into their own around championship time.
Young Irelands also have a strong history of producing quality footballers who have gone onto represent the club on the N.S.W. state team and Australian national squad in Ireland. The club has also drawn in a large number of inter county players from Ireland who are in Australia on a years backpacker visa, All Ireland winners from Tyrone Brian McGuigan and Kevin Hughes as well as Cork corner back Diarmuid Duggan are just a few examples.
So what ever your ability or age. Whether you want to play, support, lend a helping hand or get involved in the running of a successful club there is plenty of room at Young Irelands GFC for you. Why not be part of a winning Future.
